Helen Louise Durand

Age 90

Of St. Paul, MN, passed away peacefully with family at her side on May 29, 2025. Helen was born on January 13, 1935 in St. Paul, MN to parents Rudolph and Josephine (Mertzig) Lerwold. She grew up in St. Paul attending St. Joseph’s Academy in 1052 and graduating from the College of St. Catherine in 1956 with a degree in nursing. Helen worked in the Labor and Delivery unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1956-1980. She was hired by United Hospital in 1980 as the head nurse for labor and delivery. From 1985-1990, she worked as a Medical Legal Analyst with Bassford, Hecht, Lockhart & Mullin, P.A.

Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Michele, her husband of 23 years, Clyde J. Durand, and her husband of 14 years, William F. Krebes.

She was survived by daughter Mary Jo (John Kattar), sons Greg (Cindy), Dan (Teri), Jim (Michelle), and Paul as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Helen loved her family and she was grateful for the many experiences life brought her. She enjoyed her work, meeting new people and traveling around the world. She believed that happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

Helen's Celebration of Life will be on June 30, 2025, at 11 a.m., at O’Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home, 575 Snelling Ave. S, St. Paul, MN 55116. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service and a luncheon reception following the service.
