Gordon Washington “Bud” Mixon died peacefully on December 22.
Bud was born on May 18, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Katie Mae and Gordon Mixon. He lived in Roseville, Minnesota, for the past 76 years.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Tucker Mixon, and his three children: Tucker Mixon, Tim Mixon, and Katie Mixon Queenan. His eight grandchildren, spread across the United States, adored him.
Most importantly, Bud was a Christian. His faith was central to his life. Everything Bud did, he did with faith, commitment, and effort. Whether it was his business, a sport like tennis or running, or teaching Sunday School, he immersed himself in the activity and he did it well.
Bud was actively involved with his children and his grandchildren. Bud loved downhill skiing with his wife Karen, with family, and with close friends. Bud’s favorite place was the family cabin built in 1973. He created wonderful memories for many.
Bud attended Breck School for 12 years and later studied at Colorado College and the University of Minnesota. He spent most of his working career in manufacturing, where his company produced lead-acid batteries for cars, trucks, boats, and other vehicles. Later, he tackled a vexing problem at the family’s Wisconsin lake cabin by developing and marketing Swimmer’s Itch Guard to prevent swimmer’s itch.
Bud was a terrific athlete. He played tennis, golfed, ran, bicycled, snow skied, water skied, and cross-country skied. He completed 50 marathons and 14 Birkebeiners, and he was active until his final day.
Bud enjoyed everything he did and he never complained – not even when he had cancer. He leaves a huge hole in many lives.
