Geri passed away at home in Maplewood with her family around her on March 30, 2026, after a yearlong illness.
Geri was born in Saint Paul, MN to Elizabeth and Arne Markusen. She attended Johnson Sr High School and graduated in 1958.
Geri a single mother of 4 children (Mike, Kevin, Shawn and Melissa) worked to get her nursing degree and worked at Ramsey Hospital on the Orthopedic surgical and burn unit floors for years before she got the best job ever working with the Sisters of St. Joseph at Bethany convent. There she worked primarily on the 3rd floor and made many friends over the 30 years of service to the sisters.
Geri was known in the 1980s as "Auntie" to all that knew her. She was a friend to all the neighborhood, and her house was a safe space for teens and young children who needed to talk or some guidence in their lives.
Geri was known in the 2000s as "Grandma Ger" after her granddaughter was born she lived to see every performance every event every activity that her granddaughter was a part of.
In 2010s Geri "A very devoted Grama" became known as "Pageant Grama" Jeralyn was in quite a few pageants in 2010s and Grama was there for every rehearsal every meeting and every pageant.
Preceded in death by her Mother Elizabeth Holmberg, Father Arne Markusen, Brothers Thomas McNulty, William Holmberg, Sister Coralee "Cookie" Edgett and Nephew Danny Growe. Survived by Sons Michael, Kevin (Pamela), Shawn and Daughter Melissa and the greatest joy of her life her Granddaughter Jeralyn Ree. Many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and lifelong friends.
Service are Monday April 20th, 10-11AM at O'Halloran & Murphy, 575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul.
