Gerald "Gy" Roscommon O'Brien

Passed away surrounded by his family on August 23, 2021. He is survived by children, Matthew (Andrea), Barbara (Michael) Iannazzo, Gregory, Joseph, Frances (Joseph) Seiler, Patrice Jenson, and Mary; grandchildren, Daniel, Nellie, Bridget, Joseph, Marie, Frank, Annie, Olivia, Meg, and Sam. Born in 1934 and raised in St. Paul, Gy attended Cretin High School, St. Thomas College, and St. Louis University Medical School, graduating in 1959. He interned at Old Anchor Hospital in St. Paul and completed his OBGYN residency at the University of Minnesota. He served as a flight surgeon in the USAF and practiced medicine for over 30 years, bringing innumerable babies into the world! Gy spent his summers on his beloved Madeline Island, providing unsolicited swimming lessons and visiting on the porch. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting, golf, tennis, and sailboat racing on Lake Superior. He bestowed his passion for sports, music, and the performing arts onto his children and grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to the staff, and Bear the Golden Retriever at The Pillars of White Bear Lake, who loved and cared for “Doc” during the last 3 years of his life. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 28 at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Lake Church in White Bear Lake. Reception immediately following at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, from 11:30am to 1:30pm where we can raise a toast and share Gy stories. Memorials preferred to Catholic Relief Services or St. Mary of the Lake Church. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery on Madeline Island at a later date.
