Gerald (Gary) E. Lyon and Josephine (JoAnne) A. Lyon

Gary, age 87, passed away on December 26, 2020 and JoAnne, age 85, passed away on December 6, 2020. Gary and JoAnne were residents of Lakeville and formerly long-time residents of St. Paul.

Gary and JoAnne were preceded in death by their infant grandson James Lyon and their parents, Herman and Leona Lyon (Gary’s parents), and Michael and Marie Tschida (JoAnne’s parents).

Loving parents, grandparents, brother and sister, Gary and JoAnne are survived by their children, Michael (Marina), Tom (Debbie), Geraldine (Scott) Gjesdahl, John and Paul (Penny); their grandchildren, Steve, Alex, Willie, Taylor, Sara, Emily and Isabelle; Gary’s sisters, Mary Ellen Ledman, Linda (Jack) Claeson, Janelle (Bradley) Boudreau and Jackie Miller; JoAnne’s brother Richard (Marie) Tschida; and many extended family members and dear friends.

JoAnne battled Parkinson’s disease for a number of years. When the disease progressed and JoAnne needed additional care, they made the decision to move to an assisted living facility where they could continue to be together, which was always their number one priority. A short time after the move, JoAnne lost her battle with Parkinson’s and, tragically, Gary contracted COVID-19 while taking care of JoAnne and he passed away just 20 days later. Gary and JoAnne, happily married for 62 years, will be remembered for the extraordinary bond of love and togetherness they shared, their caring nature, and their unconditional love and support for family and friends. They will be greatly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.

Due to COVID-19, the funeral mass at St. Francis de Sales (being held on January 2, 2021, 11:00 a.m.) and interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery are private. The funeral mass will be live streamed at https://www.sf-sj.org/. The family is planning to host a celebration of life gathering at a future date.
