George Raymond Cochran Jr., age 85, of White Bear Lake died on March 26, 2021. He was born October 3, 1935 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to George Sr. and Helen Cochran. George attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and graduated with a B.E. in Geological Engineering. He later received a M.E. in Geological Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1958 to 1964, he served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. George proudly worked as a civil engineer/soils engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation/Highway Department for over 30 years. During his free time, George loved to sail, play tennis, and fish on Lake Superior. George was also an avid reader and enjoyed learning new things. From 1978 to 1983, he attended William Mitchell College of Law at night while working but decided not to practice law after graduating. In his retirement, George discovered a love of Great Books, philosophy, and economics. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his sister Patsy (Sam) Walker: daughter, Jeanne (Andrew Wallace) Cochran, son Christopher (Darcy) Cochran, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A private family service will be held 11am Monday, April 5, 2021 at the funeral home.
