Eric Alan McArthur

Eric Alan McArthur, 45, of Burnsville, Minnesota, passed away on September 5, 2025. Born on December 25, 1979, in Moline, Illinois, Eric lived a life defined by courage, integrity, and a profound commitment to service as a soldier, police officer, husband, father, and friend.

Eric began his public safety career as a police and fire dispatcher for the Bloomington Police Department, serving from 2010 to 2015. He then joined the Saint Paul Police Department, where he served with distinction for over nine years. In 2021, Eric became a valued member of the SPPD K9 Unit with his trusted partner, K9 Finn. He also served on the department’s Honor Guard and Peer Support Team, supporting his fellow officers with compassion and strength.

Before his law enforcement career, Eric served honorably in the Army National Guard, completing three overseas tours and earning the Bronze Star for his exemplary service. His military years were marked not only by valor but also by deep, lifelong friendships forged through shared sacrifice.

Eric’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Shanna, and a loving, present father to his two children, Caleb and Lila. He found joy in cheering for Caleb in both band and cross country, and watching Lila shine in ballet. Whether in uniform or at home, Eric showed up with love, encouragement, and a steady presence that will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Shanna; his children, Caleb and Lila; mom, Lynn McArthur; sisters, Melissa (Josh) Phinney and Sarah (Josh) Shebek; and extended family; and many friends, fellow officers, and military brothers and sisters who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his dad, William McArthur and grandparents, Fred and Marie Jeske, and Charlie and Barb McArthur.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at O’Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home, 575 Snelling Ave S, Saint Paul, MN.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, September 14, at 4:00 p.m. at Hosanna Church, 9600 163rd St W, Lakeville, MN.

All who knew and loved Eric are welcome to attend and honor his life.

Eric will be remembered for his bravery, his compassion, and the quiet strength he brought to every part of his life. His legacy lives on in those he protected, served, and loved - especially in Caleb and Lila, who were his heart and his greatest pride.
