Duane Elofson Obituary

Duane Ellsworth Elofson
December 12, 1935 – May 18, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Duane Ellsworth Elofson, who left this world on May 18, 2025, at the age of 89. Duane was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who brought joy to everyone he met.

Born on December 12, 1935 in Duluth, MN, he lived a life full of kindness, laughter, and love.  Moving to Minneapolis, he built a career as a Sales Executive with John Morrell.  Retirement brought new adventures, including spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and exploring new creative outlets.

In 1955, Duane was selected for assignment to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, “The Old Guard,” furnishing Army Honor Guard and Security details for the Washington Area.

A gifted artist, woodworker, and designer, Duane had an extraordinary ability to create and build. His passion for craftsmanship was evident in everything he touched, from intricate furniture to an exceptional collection of paintings.

Beyond his creative talents, he found immense joy in creating exquisite outdoor spaces and taking great pride in his lawn, frequently communicating this passion with his kids.

Duane was an accomplished athlete in his younger years, being named Mr. Basketball in his senior year.  As a dad, he instilled in his kids a spirit of competition and teamwork, teaching and training them to be their best. His love for sports never waned, and he remained a devoted fan of basketball and soccer, always eager to cheer on his favorite teams.

His legacy of creativity, dedication, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Duane is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Elofson; children, Terryl (Victor) Brumm, Scott (Tracy) Elofson, and Jennifer (Chad) Ege; stepdaughters, Kelly (Samuel) Drummer and Brita Perkins; and grandchildren, Max, Tyler, Ava, Mackenzie, Louie, Lea, Isabella, Sade, Solomon, Haleia, and Aila; great-grandchildren, Cleevon and Cleveah; siblings, Marilyn Bina, and Karen (Bob) Blume; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
