Donald "Don" Selinger
Age 87 of Woodbury passed away peacefully on June 11th. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, Fred and Iva Selinger; brother, James and sister-in-law, Grace. Survived by children, David (Vicki), Carol (Rick) Pahl and Thomas (Karin); grandchildren, Ian, Erin, Brandon, Anna, Ella, William, Bennett, Julia, and Bridget; sister-in-law, Lynn (Rob) Turner; sister-in-law Maryellen; nephew, Robert (Joann) and niece, Karen Williams.
Don was a long-time employee of Bailey Nurseries retiring in 2001. He was active in the Minnesota Nurserymen’s Association, All-American Rose Selections and collaborated with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. He was an acknowledged expert on landscape plants for Midwest gardening and co-authored “Growing Shrubs and Small Trees in Cold Climates”. He was past president and long-time treasurer of the Minnesota Gladiolus Society, and an active member of the North American Gladiolus Society. He was an active member for many years of the Woodbury Lion’s Club and served as president. He had a passion for plants both in his career and as a hobby and was a successful plant breeder with many Gladiolus introductions and six different shrubs that are in the nursery trade. He was also an avid golfer, bridge player and sports fan.
Memorial Service will be Friday, August 14th at 11:00am at The Grove United Methodist Church (7465 Steepleview Rd, Woodbury). Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at the church cemetery.
