Dennis Paul Garvin

Dennis Paul Garvin, age 80, died Sunday afternoon August 15, 2021 after a brief battle with an illness. Born September 6, 1940 in Watertown South Dakota to Robert Paul Garvin and Alice Schneider Garvin.

He was a graduate of Clark South Dakota public schools and later served in the United States Navy.  After returning home from the service, Dennis had a 37-year career with the United States Postal Service.  After he retired from the Postal Service, Denny worked 20 years at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Woodbury, MN.

Preceded in death by parents and brothers Bob and Jim.  Denny is survived by sister Pamela Kightlinger of Palm Springs, CA.  Loving father to Tim (Tara) Garvin, Chad (Ricci) Garvin and Grandpa to Chase and Jolie Garvin.  Denny is also survived by ex-wife and long-time friend Sue Donahue who helped care for him in his final months.

A lifelong sports enthusiast and very athletic, Denny led an active life and enjoyed golf, baseball, tennis, pickle ball, bowling, horse racing and bike riding.  He was a superb ball player who hurled three perfect games in one season for the Clark Comets high school team.  Denny also took advantage of his employment at Eagle Valley as he mastered the par 3 hole #13 with three hole-in-ones.  He enjoyed retirement by spending his winters at Valle Del Oro in Mesa, AZ where he engaged in many activities including reading by the pool.

Denny loved his grandkids and was their biggest fan!  He attended many of their games and loved playing driveway baseball, basement hockey and board games. Denny’s own mother was a teacher and he was a strong supporter of his grandkid’s education.

Denny will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
