David Horton Obituary

David M. Horton, age 76, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, following a 13-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Minnesota and raised in Natick, Massachusetts, David was a St. Thomas alum ('74) and retired from the State of MN.

David was a man of simple pleasures and deep interests. He often read 2 or more books at once, enjoyed talking or arguing politics and grew tomatoes every summer.  Most of all, he was a loving grandfather and fixture in his neighborhood, always ready for a chat over the fence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Pierce and Margaret Dowd Horton; sisters, Barbie and Nancy; brother, Doug and his 2nd wife Robin; niece, Rebecca Horton; nephew Teddy Smith; and niece Tricia Smith.

David is survived by his wife Maureen (aka Mimi); his sons, Michael (Danielle), John (Becky), and Patrick Horton; and his six beloved grandchildren: Luke, Abby, Andy, Will, Vivian, and Walter. He also leaves behind his aunt, Jane Dowd of St. Paul; sisters, Kitty (Ken) Smith; Cyn Horton, brother J. Duncan (Lori) Horton, Teri Hogan (Brian McQuiston); sister-in-law Terece (1st wife of Doug) and an ever-growing family of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, from 1-3p at O’Halloran & Murphy (575 South Snelling Avenue, St. Paul, MN). A private burial will follow.

Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Heartland. https://secure.2harvest.org/site/Donation2?df_id=27191&mfc_pref=T&27191.donation=form1
