Christine Sand Bluhm Obituary

Christine Marie Sand Bluhm

Christine passed away suddenly on January 20th, just as she was heading to the airport after a long vacation with her beloved husband.

Christine was born in Iowa in 1965 to JoAnn and Raymond Sand. She grew up in Glenbrook, IL, and attended Iowa State. Her passion was Political Science, and she excelled as a lobbyist in Washington D.C. Her last lobbying job was at the American Academy of Actuaries, where she became the chief lobbyist after a short time, and met her husband. She then moved to St Paul and started the family she loved, for which her husband is profoundly grateful.

Along the way, she graduated from William Mitchell College of Law. She was particularly proud of being able to maintain herself on the Dean’s List during her whole time there, while simultaneously giving birth to, and caring for, her two children.

Christine was a leader in many volunteer efforts, volunteering much time for many organizations, including Regions Hospital, the Ordway Center, Ronald McDonald House, Planned Parenthood, Girl Scouts River Valley, St Paul Academy, and the St Paul Junior League, where she also proudly served a term as President in 2009-2010.

For those lucky enough to know her, she was a generous, thoughtful, caring friend, and the central force behind many group activities.

Christine was also a caring, thoughtful, and loving mother. She took great pride in her children’s accomplishments, wearing her daughter’s veterinary school merchandise, and sharing her son’s acapella concerts. The love she held for her family was unending, and will forever be missed.

She is survived by her husband, William F. (Bill) Bluhm, their two children Samantha Casey Bluhm and Joseph Peter Bluhm, her mother JoAnn Arndt, stepfather Rick Arndt, her brothers Rik Arndt and Davan Sand, and sisters Cathy Medernach and Pam Treinen.

Services will be held at Unity Church Unitarian, 733 Portland Avenue, St. Paul, MN, at 2 pm on Feb 28th, with a gathering at 1pm.
