Carly Anne Buchanan

Carly Anne Buchanan, Minneapolis, MN passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 after a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Carly was born in Valley City, ND on August 10, 1988. She attended school in Jamestown, ND and graduated in 2006. She obtained a BA in English from the University of MN graduating in 2009 and went on to receive her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University in 2011. She worked for a short time before CF left her disabled. She worked for the Catholic Diocese of Crookston as a psychological expert acting as an expert witness in annulment petitions.

Even though her health prevented her from working, she never lost her passion for helping people and volunteering her time and talents with many organizations. She spread her love of reading Harry Potter and fostered many lasting friendships because of it. She volunteered at children’s summer Harry Potter camps in both Jamestown and Bismarck. At the time of her death she was Co-Head of the Guest of Honor Department at Convergence held annually in Minneapolis, MN. Other passions of hers were traveling and theater. Some of her most memorable trips were a trip to NY City to see as many musicals as she could in 4 days, a number of trips to Disney World and Universal Studios to experience Harry Potter World and most recently a wonderful trip to Hawaii with her amazing boyfriend David Raabe. Carly curated a huge circle of friends with intention. As a result she gave and received love in abundance. The friends she fostered meant the world to her.

Carly is survived by her mother and father Cindy and David Buchanan, Mandan, ND, her Grand-mother JoAnn Buchanan-Espeland, Sioux Falls, SD, her boyfriend David Raabe of Minneapolis, MN, Aunt Belinda Zink (Rick) of Fort Collins, CO, Uncle Ray Zerr (Lisa) of Garrison, ND, Tim Zerr (Brenda)of Fargo, ND, Aunt Bonnie Locken of Mohall, ND, Aunt Mary Jane Thompson (Bob) of Vadnais Heights MN, Aunt Deb Mund of Fargo, ND and Aunt Barb Belcher (David) of Moorhead MN. She was very close to her first cousins Mark Zerr, Frannie Gustofson, Michael Zerr, Jeremy Zerr, Tahnee Miller, Kate Schlag, Martina Liu, Frida Zink, Rose Thompson, Adam Mund, Matthew Mund, Mason Mund, Forest Elstrom and Rowan Elstrom. She was preceeded in death by her grandparents, Anne and Leo Zerr and Harry Buchanan and Uncle Randy Zerr.

Gathering at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9th at Roseville Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m.

A further Celebration of Life will be held in August around Carly's birthday.

There will be a luncheon after the service. Details will be provided at the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Cystic Fibrosis Association of North Dakota.
