Bernadette "Bobbie" Amerongen Obituary

Bernadette “Bobbie” Amerongen

Died peacefully at home on March 16th, just shy of her 102nd birthday.  Preceded in death by husband, Werner; sons Joseph and Paul; and granddaughter, Kelly.  Loving, devoted, faith filled mother will be greatly missed by her children: Jane & Scott Deming, Mary Boston, Barb & Doug Mitsch, Rita & Dennis Corrigan, Cathy & John Ries, Joanie & Russ Vetick, John & Lisa Amerongen, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Amerongen; 24 grandchildren, Beth & John Lundrigan, Jen & Mike Skramstad, Scott & Sarah Deming, Chris & Madelon Deming, Jenny Kotek, Matt & Lucy Boston, Laura & Pat Meyer, Brian Mitsch, Joe Mitsch & Mike Hyke, Michele & Tony Harmening ,Monica & Brian Hodges, Kathy Mitsch, Teresa & Kyle Dawley, Michael & Valerie Corrigan, Melissa & John Chabot, Sean & Beth Corrigan, Drew Corrigan, Mark & Lindsey Ries, Jack & Haley Ries, Renee & Tommy Steichen, Marissa Amerongen, Julia Amerongen, Nicholas & Corinna Amerongen, and Elise Amerongen, 34 great grandchildren, plus 2 due in May.

As an only child growing up in St. Paul, Mom's prayer for a brother or sister did not come to be.  God had other plans for her as He blessed her with many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her prayer for a big family certainly was answered.  She had a great devotion to St. Jospeh and on his feast day in 1954 her life and Werner's were protected.

Mom was also blessed with many lifelong friends from grade school that lasted her lifetime, including the Sinnets and El Torez, plus many other wonderful friends, through her book clubs and prayer groups.  Her wit, sense of humor, and storytelling is a gift that has graced us all.

When Mom was able to get around, you could find her at daily Mass, adoration, and perhaps shopping.  Her favorite places were with family and friends, and yes, fond memories of Captiva Island, which she introduced to her children.  She poured so much love into all she did for her family and loved ones.  Always making an extra place at the table for her famous pot-roast, casseroles, apple pie, and Werner's favorite ...zucchini dishes

She was known as a prolific knitter, with every stitch a prayer; she made countless baby blankets, sweaters, Christmas stockings, and scarves, plus many sewing creations.

She has blessed her children and all who knew her for her steadfast faith, love, and devotion.  She never wavered in her life challenges. She lived by her own words.

Love - A lot      Pray - Always      Forgive- Even more      Obey - "Cause God said so"

May her inspiration be joy that brings us closer to our Lord.

With heartfelt gratitude to Neng and Vangie, to Our Lady of Peace Hospice team, especially Teri, for their compassionate & loving care that made Mom’s journey home peaceful.  Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Thursday March 20th at the Church of the Assumption, 51 West 7th St., St. Paul, Visitation starting at 9AM.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Our Lady of Peace Hospice, 2076 St. Anthony Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104.  The services will be livestreamed at www.Assumptionsp.org
