Beatrice Victoria (Winkler) Anderson, age 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Anoka, Minnesota on April 7, 2026. She was born January 16, 1927, to Gus and Hulda (Bloch) Winkler in Neche, North Dakota, and was the oldest of six children.
She was a graduate of Neche High School and Mayville University in Mayville, North Dakota. She taught first and second grades in North Dakota (Crystal, Cavalier and Grafton) before moving to Henning, Minnesota, where she taught second and third grade. It was there that she met her husband, Elmer (Andy) Anderson, who was also a teacher at Henning High School. They were united in marriage on June 20, 1952, and raised three daughters together.
Bea used her many interests to always help others. She was extremely active in her church and most of her life-long friends were either from her neighborhood or her church family. She and her neighbors created a preschool for the 14 same-age children in their two-block radius. They also had a sewing group, where they not only worked on personal projects, but also devoted their skills to help various charities. Her home was a favorite for her daughters' friends and there were always fresh baked treats for all. She was involved in many activities at her church, such as quilting, Altar Guild, money-counter, kitchen helper for funerals and other gatherings, Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the local Christian Women's group, Care Group member, and volunteer driver. After the death of her husband, she was a member of the Rose Enkas widow's group, where she was the treasurer for many years.
She was a devoted stay-at-home mother for all three girls until they were in school. She then was a substitute teacher and reading assistant in her children's elementary school. She later worked as a Title 1 assistant in the St. Paul school district. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid reader who kept track of all the books she had read, always completed the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper in ink AND cursive, loved maps and following her family's trips with her atlas, looked at magazines from the back to the front, and never missed watching the Minnesota Twins on TV. By far, her most rewarding "career" was being grandma to Caitlin and Jake, and later, great-grandma to their children.
Bea is preceded in death by her husband, Andy; infant daughter, Beth Ann; her parents; sister Leora and brothers Lawrence, Lloyd and Dennis. She is survived by her children, Judy Anderson, Mary Kay Anderson, and Kristin (Jim) Wherley; grandchildren, Caitlin (Andrew) Koenig and Jake (Karli) Wherley; and great-grandchildren, Wren, Palmer and Wells Wherley and Waylon Koenig; sister, Doris Kassenborg, and many nieces and nephews. Bea lived a life full of love, and everyone who met her adored her.
A celebration of life will be held at Roseville Lutheran Church, located at 1215 West Roselawn Avenue, Roseville, Minnesota on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with the service following at 11:00 am. A light luncheon will be served immediately after the service.
Bea will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville, Minnesota. May God shine His eternal light upon her and give her peace as He welcomes her into His kingdom.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Bea's name. The family would like to thank the staff at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice for their exceptional care in Bea's final days.
