Bauer, Barton Conrad
Age 89, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022. Bart was born on October 29, 1932, to Rose and Milton Bauer. He grew up in Montgomery, Minn. and graduated from Montgomery High School (Class of 1950) where he was voted Best All Around and served as President of the M Club during his senior year. He was particularly proud of his two seasons as a two-way starter on the Redbird Varsity Football team and encouraged his three boys to play team sports. Bart served in the U.S. Navy (1952-1956) and was based in the Philippine Islands during the Korean War era. He earned his undergraduate (1958) and graduate (1961) degrees from the University of Minnesota. He was a loyal fan of the Gophers his entire life. Bart is survived by Shirley, his beloved wife of 65 years; sons, Jeff (Mary), Scott (Rosemary) and Brent (Julie); seven grandchildren (Jill, Kristin, Melissa, Megan, Emma, William and Ben) and six great grandchildren. Barton held various positions with the State of Minnesota’s Department of Health and Human Services from 1958 – 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Milton (Betty). Bart loved to read, go the movies, travel the world and most of all, spend quality time with his family. He was a master storyteller and published two books after he retired: A Butcher's Boy: On Killing, Dying and Death (2014), and Social Worker, A Soldier in the War on Poverty (2016). Always kind, patient and understanding, he was a wonderful husband, role model for his sons, a loving Grandpa and friend to all who knew him. We were all blessed to have had Bart in our lives.
