Anthony (Tony) Norman Blauert (67) was born on May 16, 1958 to Wilbert and Hazel (Weum) Blauert in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was taken into the arms of Jesus on Thursday morning, November 13, at Prelude Homes in Woodbury, MN. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1976. He attended Moorhead State University, graduating in 1980, with a degree in Social Work. His career in Social Work started at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN. He served 21 years at Ah-Gwah-Ching, a state nursing home outside of Walker, MN. He concluded his career as a Client Services Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Minnesota State Sex Offender Program, in St. Peter, MN, retiring in June of 2016.
He enjoyed traveling, both for enjoyment as well as ministry, experiencing a number of mission trips to Mexico with his Calvary E Free Family in Walker, MN. He also attended multiple Promise Keeper events with them. He was involved with the jail ministry as well. He made several hunting trips to Alaska; he got a caribou one year that he proudly displayed in his home. Once he moved to Mankato, his life revolved around his church family at Crossview Covenant Church. Most recently, New Life Church of Wedgwood, at his residence, was a source of strength and joy. And, he was known for loving pie (no birthday cakes for him!), desserts and chocolate!! He loved hamburgers and fries. He enjoyed eating out—anything, but seafood.
He became a quadriplegic, following a freak bicycle accident August 13, 2017. His walk with God enabled him to nearly always maintain a positive attitude and a grateful heart, beyond what would be normal. He had a multitude of praying friends who helped make this possible.
Maintaining friendships was a high priority. Regardless of where he lived, he kept in touch with friends from high school, college, Clearbrook, Walker/Bemidji and Mankato.
He is survived by his dad, Wilbert Blauert, his sister, Kathleen (Gordon) Hofmann, Welch, MN a niece, Heidi (Adam) Gronning, Sarona, WI, and nephew, Grant (Rachel) Hofmann, Fargo, ND. He has 3 great nieces: Rachel Odden, Rikki Gronning and Vivien Hofmann. 2 great nephews: Caleb Odden and Collin Hofmann. He is also survived by step-siblings Laurel Streifel, Champlin, MN and Gregg (Heidi) Matejka, Fargo, ND and their children. He has one surviving uncle, Gordon (Bonnie) Weum, Cottage Grove, MN as well as a number of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel, in 1995 and Jean, Dad’s wife of 25 years in May of 2025, as well as grandparents Norman E and Mabel Mickelson, Bill (Myrtle) and Tina Blauert, Emil and Olga Weum, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
