Anna Marie (Preiner)

Age 86, of Mendota Heights, MN

Died November 8, 2023.Anna was born April 5, 1937, in St. Paul, MN, to Heinrich and Anna Preiner and was a graduate of St. Agnes High School class of 1955, and College of St. Catherine in 1958. She was a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul and met her future husband, Timothy, as she cared for his father, James O’Gara. Anna married Tim on September 1, 1962, at St. Francis de Sales Church in St. Paul. Tim and Anna raised four kids, Tim, Dan, Kelly and Molly.  

Anna is a true Austrian from the “west end,” while also embracing the Irish character of Tim’s family legacy of O’Gara’s Bar & Grill at Selby and Snelling in St. Paul. Anna volunteered countless hours at Cretin High School, helped many community organizations, and sang in the choir at St. Francis. "Anna Banana” ended meal prayers with “faith, family and friends” and that is how she lived her life. “A.A.” had an independent spirit while being a strong supporter for all those she loved. She was a friend to everyone she met. Grannie Annie’s love of Christmas and gatherings was well known, and she never wanted the party to end.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Tim; daughter Molly; parents Heinrich and Anna Preiner; brother Henry Preiner; brothers-in-law; John Hermann, James Jr. O’Gara, and Fr. Stephen O’Gara. Sisters-in-law; Kathleen (James) Smith, Anastasia (Colin “Coke”) Campbell, and Nancy O’Gara. Nephews; Peter and Karl Hermann. Survived by loving children; Tim, Dan (Kris), and Kelly (Tom) Boland. Sister Juanita “Nita” Hermann; sister-in-law Dixie Preiner; brother-in-law Patrick O’Gara. Cherished grandmother of; George (Erin) and Ryan (Katelyn) O’Gara, Jack, Shea and Kallie O’Gara, Mack O’Gara, Cashel, McKernan, Tierney and Tynan Boland, Taylor (Jordan) Harris, Lindsey Harris, Lauren (Patrick) Greene. Adored great grandmother to; Kinsley, Hattie & Gemma, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Visitation on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 2-4pm at Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial 1:30pm Monday November 20, 2023, at the Church of the Assumption, St. Paul (51 7th Street West, St. Paul, MN 55102). Interment immediately following the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Little Sisters of the Poor, West 7th Street Boys Club, Church of the Assumption, or St. Frances de Sales Church.
