Alyce Marilyn Buckley, age 90, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by family. Alyce is the devoted wife of 64 years to Sheridan John Buckley, and mother of three cherished daughters: Shawne (Alain) Thiry, Denise (Michael) McDevitt, and Tara (Robert) Hutchinson, and grandmother to Luke, Natalie, Christopher, Finnegan, Colin and Sean, and sister-in-law, Virginia Orth.
Born on September 6, 1935, in Kansas City, MO, Alyce is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Bumgarner, and sister, Martha (Lloyd) Smith.
Alyce’s compassion and commitment to caring for others shone through her work as a critical care nurse at Charles T. Miller and United Hospitals in Minnesota, and, after relocating to Florida, she continued working part-time in Naples at healthcare facilities until her 85th birthday. During this time, she also joined several medical mission trips to Peru providing care to pediatric cleft palate patients. Beyond nursing, Alyce held leadership roles in the Ramsey County and Minnesota Lawyers Wives organizations and Naples Women’s Investment Club.
Alyce embraced life with energy and joy. She excelled at downhill skiing, figure skating and ice dancing. She was a gourmet cook known for her homemade “Salsa de Alicia” and a gracious hostess who enjoyed bringing people together. Alyce delighted in playing tennis, attending the theater, dressing in beautiful clothes, knitting, traveling, gardening, and nurturing caterpillars into butterflies. She had a remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends, and her warmth made every room brighter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 30 at the Church of the Assumption in St. Paul, MN, with visitation at 9 AM, mass at 10 AM, followed by lunch at the church. Private interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
