Arthur Raymond Schneider
Age 93 of Saint Paul,
Passed peacefully surrounded by his family after a long, well-lived life on April 2nd, 2024. Preceded in death by his wife Shirley, parents William and Julia Verboncoeur Schneider, son Joseph, sister Doris, brothers Charles, Robert, Richard, Thomas, son-in-law Thomas Reynolds, and nephews Grant and William Schneider.
Born Sept.1930, he grew up in Highland Park and graduated from Nativity grade school (1944) and Cretin High School (1948). He attended St. Thomas College and graduated from the University of Minnesota (1951). He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Art met and married Shirley Mary Roche in 1956, and they were married for 55 years until Shirley died in 2011. For the last 10 years of Shirley’s life, Art tirelessly served as her caregiver. Art worked for over forty years at Prudential Insurance Company as a computer systems analyst. After retirement, Art spent a decade volunteering for Habitat for Humanity culminating with a building project in Appalachia where his Minneapolis crew worked alongside Jimmy Carter. His interests were many and varied; he was an avid film photographer, accomplished woodworker, talented artist, dedicated history buff, and genealogist. He was also the founding and charter member of the Schneider Breakfast Club.
Art is survived by three children Steve, Maryann Reynolds, and Jean (David) Friar. Seven grandchildren Joseph (Brenda) Schneider, Mark (Courtney) Schneider, Gina Schneider, Ian and Jake Reynolds, Eleanor and Clare Friar, and three greatgrandchildren Samantha, Jacob, and Andrew Schneider. Art was a loving, devoted husband, father, and doting grandfather who served as a wonderful role model for his family.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday, April 12th following a 9:30 AM visitation at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1938 Stanford Ave, St. Paul. Private family interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Habitat for Humanity or the Nativity Scholarship Program.
